Solution concept
With the hpcLine product family Fujitsu Siemens Computers introduces a platform for high performance computing which is characterised by a superior price performance thanks to the use of standard components and the various configuration options.
hpcLine systems are based on a modular concept, which combines a high degree of flexibility with easy usability. Compact 19" modules enable an optimal use of space and easiest extendibility.
hpcLine Systems are based on Fujitsu Siemens PRIMERGY (Intel based server) and CELSIUS (Workstation) components. Our partner ict AG integrates them into a ready-to-use hpcLine cluster.
An important characteristic of the architectural concept of the hpcLine is its scalability in each regard. Possible configurations reach from a starter kit with 8 compute nodes up to systems with hundreds of state-of-the-art Intel or AMD processors.
Applications
Due to the long experience in High Performance Computing and the continuous development of hpcLine systems, Fujitsu Siemens Computers is able to offer solutions for many applications in industry as well as in science. Compute intensive applications such as the simulation of flows, crash behavior or electromagnetic compliance as well as calculations in seismology, bioinformatics or 3D image processing can efficiently be performed with the hpcLine.
Thanks to its comprehensive IT competence Fujitsu Siemens Computers is offering a complete service and support package for hardware, Linux and applications which guaranties highest availability and reliability of hpcLine systems in the productive use.

Customised configuration
The use of nodes with different processors allows Fujitsu Siemens Computers to configure custom tailored systems that match individual requirements.
Compute nodes are offered based on current Intel and AMD processors.
Various benchmarks show that for applications with relatively low demands on communication, the connection of nodes with a Gigabit Ethernet Switch is sufficient. To achieve an excellent
scalability in communication intensive applications, Fujitsu Siemens Computers integrates high-speed interconnects. The customers can choose between Myrinet2000, SCI (Scalable Coherent Interface) and Infiniband.

As communication and management software Scali Manage and MPI Connect of our Norwegian partner Scali AS, are provided.
The good benchmark results for the hpcLine system are achieved in particular thanks to the highly optimized communication software. With standard interfaces such as MPI (Message Passing Interface) as the base of the hpcLine programming paradigm, which are used by our partners, the easy portability of user applications to other systems is ensured (protection of investment).
Résumé
FujiFujitsu Siemens hpcLine follows an open concept. Therefore it is easy to quickly transfer future technology or architecture improvements into new customer solutions. On the other hand the integration of future interconnects, which are continuously evaluated, is another option of the hpcLine concept. This open conception of the hpcLine guarantees a high degree of flexibility and future security to the customer.
